Here You All Go, Some Progress Shots.
Ok, for everyone hounding me for progress shots here you go:)
Due to the odd hours of my part time employment I'm just getting off a long stretch of work and over the next couple of weeks I'm getting a couple of five day weekends so I'll be able to get some more work done.
I've just been taking my time with this new work. Spending a lot of time just looking at it. The change in scale has given me a few new problems, but nothing too major. The panels are nice and sturdy. One of them warped slightly though more because of my rusty skills with building the things then anything else.
This new piece is 23 x 36. I wasn't really too sure where I would be going with the larger work so I had to make a guess on the size. I like the dimensions of this one.
I decided to try grouping a bunch of figures together. I spent a lot of time just thinking about what parts of the picture would be sculpted. Just scaling up what I did in smaller work didn't seem like it would work very well in this case. It would of been way to easy to damage the work with high relief sculpture coming off of the surface. I decided to just sculpted the faces and use plaster for the rest of the details. So far it seems like the best idea.
Another problem that crept up was that I couldn't do all the plaster work in one go. I had take a lot more time to plan out what it was I was doing.
Weight has become an issue as well. The work must weigh around 20lbs at the moment. That's not all so bad but may become a real problem if I want to work larger in the future.
Sorry these aren't really the best pictures. This is where I am now I've just started painting and I've realize that this might take awhile longer to do. First off I need larger brushes! I've been working small scale for way too long. It's hard to tell from the photo but the surface is very heavily textured.
There's so many things I could try to do at this point it's kind of hard just to choose something and go with it.
Anyway, I'll post more when I'm a bit further along.
