Finally Got Some New Work On The Go!

Well, It's taken me long enough, but I finally have some new work started.  For the last month I've been slowly gathering up materails.  One thing I wanted to do was move beyond the small scale work I've been doing.  I've got some nice 23x36 birch panels  I had to make here in the apartment.  I was able to get the lumberyard to do most of the cutting for me.  That just left me with the task of assembaly which wasn't too bad.

I think one of the reasons it's taken me so long to get started was because I  still didn't have any idea what the new work would be about. As I was building the panels and was able to actually see the size of the project more ideas finally started to come to mind.

I have to rethink most of the relief sculpture.  I'm pretty sure it will not work on this larger scale, at least not in the way I've been doing it up till now.

With luck I'll be able to get some progress shots up over the next few days.

Howard: Allright! I'm looking forward to seeing your new work in progress. I'm especially interested in the large size of your new work. It's such a boost, now that the sun has returned to the Pacific NW!

No kidding Jackie, all that rain was really starting to get depressing.

Hey, I didn't get any sun, what's up with that?

I'm excited to see the larger work as well. I know you've been wanting to do this for a long time so I'm really happy for you, that you're getting there. I'm sure new challenges will crop up but confronting them is half the fun, right? right?

Yeah but you live on the gulf of Alaska, the birthplace of bad winter weather. I don't think the north coast of BC up near you gets much of any sun for most of the winter.

As for new challenges, Scaling up the work as presented some interesting problems. I think I'll have to work much flatter from now on.

I wonder, are their any kind of...hard foam polymeres or something...that harden but are lightweight that you could gesso over? I've sure you've already looked into that but...I'm just sad you won't be able to do as much relief work, which is what I really love about your pieces.

Thee's things like super sculpey but it's too expensive to use on large scale projects.

I've actually got some interesting ideas. There is still relief. I just have to adapt to the new size.

I'm sure that regardless of the amount of relief you'll find a way to make them look awesome.

when will you post?

huh? huh? huh? huh? huh? huh? huh? huh?

Howard: How's the new work coming along? I am, along with Elise, awaiting to see the promised pics with baited breath...and anticipation...white knuckles gripping the edge of my seat, even! I'm really curious about how your experiments with new modeling techniques are going!
Hope everything's okay :}
