Night Out

Finally got out to see the Brian Jungen  show at the Vancouver Art Gallery last night.  The show has been up now for a couple of months now.  There was a huge media blitz when the show first opened.  I think every major and minor paper in town has had an article on the show and all of the attention is well deserved.  The two main attractions are the whale skeletons  constructed from  plastic lawn chairs and the aboriginal facemask  made from Nike runners.

They are almost like mental optical illusions  as the brain jumps back and for between  lawn chairs and runners to whales and facemask

Another show at the gallery that was a bit of a surprise for me was the work of BC artist Takao Tanabe.  His earlier work from the 60’s is abstract which progresses toward greater and greater realism with amazing  minute details.  The emptiness off his landscapes is stunning.

Both shows will be up at the gallery till the end of April.  Well worth checking out.

My own work is going slowly at the moment .  The work in progress  from the last entry is now complete.  I’m having a hard time getting a decent picture of it and may have to wait for a dry day to photograph it outside.

I’m totally fed up with my cash flow problems and have decided to buy what I need on credit and be done with it.  This start and stop is getting me nowhere.  I can’t stand just sitting on my hands here waiting to start some new work.
