The Dog Days Of Summer
Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 06:47AM There's a patch of grass just off the alley behind my apartment building that seems to be a magnet for an ever changing pile of junk. The spot is nicely framed by hedges on two sides, the sidewalk on another and the alley on the fourth. A few years ago I thought it would be fun to document the ebb and flow of material in this little patch of grass. I only managed to keep it up for a couple of months during the summer when the change over was at it's peak. There have been many times since then that I've regretted that I stopped taking photos. An endless assortment of furniture and garbage has passed through this spot over the last few years. Every day the stuff would of been rearranged during the night as people picked it over for the good stuff. I've not sure how many mattresses I've seen piled up there , and oddly enough, how many toilets. Once coming home late at night I found the space arranged with a complete set of living room furniture laid out as if the the patch of grass was the room itself. Unfortunately by the morning it was all gone. There have been many times I wished I'd had gone and got my camera, but I've come to accept that it's become my own private side show, a reminder that things are ever changing even when I'm bogged down in my boring routines. Anyway this showed up a couple of weeks ago and I had to go get a photo of it.
It's funny but I've noticed that it's turned up on one of the balconies across the alley since when I took the picture.
Anyway things are still in summer slow mode, but I am slowly getting things done.
